This was originally volume four in Cunningham's Works, which also included Historical Theology and The Reformers and the Theology of the Reformation. Iain Murray writes that "in the days of Cunningham and Bannerman, New College, Edinburgh, rose to be the finest theological college in Europe."

This book is a good example why. It exposes Romanism, which Cunningham called "the masterpiece of Satan," spiritual tyranny, false views of the church's place and power, innovative worship (contrary to the regulative principle of worship -- Rome's specialty!), and much more!
