The title continues: "Or, An Answer to the Question, 'Is It Agreeable to the Word of God, and Consistent with a Faithful Adherence to a Scriptural Profession, to Hold Ecclesiastical Communion With Such as Openly Oppose Some Parts of that Profession?"

The author notes that "all who are acquainted with the ancient usages of the church, must know that nothing similar to the modern system of promiscuous communion prevailed in those ages."

 Using both Scripture and examples from faithful witnesses of the past, the author answers a number of objections to close communion.
