This is an important book for all Christians who seek to maintain a faithful testimony by adding patience and godliness to moderation (cf. 2 Peter 1:6-7); and who constantly wage war with the world, the flesh and the devil.

Brooks also wrote Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices. In the preface to Precious Remedies it is noted that he was among the leading Puritan preachers/authors and that "some few might even award him a topmost niche among the choicest spirits of the seventeenth century."
