Contains six communion sermons preached at communion seasons in Irvine, an exposition of the tenth chapter of Job, and extracts from "Therapeutica Sacra, showing shortly the Method of Healing the Diseases of the Conscience concerning Regeneration" (including sections on what regeneration is, the covenant of redemption and the covenant of works).

The Dictionary of Scottish Church History and Theology calls Dickson's Therapeutica Sacra "his most important theological work," also noting that he was "best known through his writings."

In addition to his many other works, Dickson "also worked with Henderson and David Calderwood on a Directory for Public Worship (c. 1643) and was co-author with James Durham of the famous The Sum of Saving Knowledge" (Cameron, ed., DSCH&T, p. 243).
